Kamusta Reader!
This week, I have been working on a DLO about “how social media affects us”. By reading an article, I learned about how social media affects us both in positive ways and negative ways. This article also thouroughly shared how social media boosts dopamine due to entertaining platforms, making social media more addicting to use in an ongoing matter.
With enough information from a 2 page article, I created a DLO (Digital Learning Object), it shows a summary of what I read, so that I could showcase my learning!
DLO summary:
Social media has bec
ome a crucial part of our daily routine. This ongoing addiction can make us wonder, ‘Does social media impact us in such a way?
Social Media’s Usage
It is proven that the average user spends approximately 2 hours and 21 minutes on social media every day, leading to 16 hours and 45 minutes on social media per week. This outcome has made an immense impact to users due to the fact that they have been focusing on what is online, and not in practical reality.
Social Media’s Positive & Negative Outcomes
Social media provides access to communication such as calling, texting, and sending voice messages and videos. Without the everyday usage of social media, it could definitely lead to a struggle in keeping in touch, especially when you live far away from the people you care for. Although social media can have positive outcomes, it can also lead to negative outcomes as well. As social media could open up cyberbullying and the feeling of not being happy in your own skin. Considering most posts you see on social media is influencers living a happy life.
Dopamine Release
Dopamine is a hormone that releases when pleasurable entertainment happens, such as eating junk food. Therefore our bodies learn to crave this feeling of satisfaction. Social media releases dopamine into your brain and when it is released, we would want to use our devices more.
Spending time on social media has proceeded to become a task that we do very oftenly. Social media encourages calling, texting, doing research, and introduces entertaining videos, but at the same time makes life less productive at times. Overall, social media is an internet form of communication; allowing users to use it as one of their top priorities on a daily basis, used in both positive and negative ways.

Kumusta, this is a strong and well-presented DLO that clearly shows your understanding of both the positive and negative impacts of social media. I really like how you’ve structured your ideas into sections like “Positive & Negative Outcomes” and “Dopamine Release,” and your explanation of dopamine is clear and easy to understand. You’ve also done well linking your learning intention to your task, which shows good awareness of your purpose.
How could you deepen your evaluation by weighing which impact of social media is more significant and explaining why? As a next step, you could tighten a few sentences (for example removing repeated phrases like “everyday”), fix small spelling errors like “definately” and “vidoes,” and consider adding one final sentence that clearly sums up your overall judgement about social media to make your conclusion even stronger. This would be great if you could also find some statistical data to make a real case of the impacts. Well done!
Thank you Whaea Lorraine!
I will make sure to improve this blog post using your advice.
