In these couple of weeks, me and my reading group has read a biography about Eruera Maihi Patuone. This story talked about how he made an impact on New Zealand for around 108 years of his life. To make the most of our learning, we got assigned an activity to do; a fifty word brief explanation about Eruera Maihi Patuone. This activity is very interesting, because explaining his life was a little difficult to do in only fifty words.
Fifty Words:
Eruera Maihi Patuone is a respectable man. He studied combat, history, and he was destined to be an inspiring leader of Aotearoa. Over 108 years of living, he learned to be a leader/peacemaker who solved problems between Maori and Pakeha. This act of integrity played a huge role in Aotearoa which we honor today.
Kia ora, I like how you clearly explained that Patuone was both a leader and peacemaker, and your fifty-word summary captures the importance of his long life and influence on Aotearoa. Your reflection about how difficult it is to summarise such a big life in only fifty words shows good thinking about the task.
How might Patuone’s actions as a peacemaker have influenced relationships between Māori and Pākehā over time? Make sure to check what you’ve written. Is there a simpler way to say what you did? eg. In these couple of weeks, me and my reading group has read a biography about Eruera Maihi Patuone. This could be written as “In the past few weeks, we read …” Keep trying to improve this Stephanie.
Kia ora, Stephaine
That is a great summary! I agree that 50 words is super hard to stick to, but you did a fantastic job capturing his role as a peacemaker. I didn’t realize he lived to be over 100 years old he must have seen so much change in Aotearoa. Great work!
